Remaining seated for hours as you tend to client’s nails can be tiring; however, as a nail technician you need to be able to move around the client, or indeed, move them, so sitting in a normal, static chair just won’t do. Luckily, there’s a solution – chairs specifically designed so that both the nail tech and client are fully swivelable.
Like pedicure chairs, a manicure chair, or stool, is the perfect addition to any nail salon, and there are plenty on the market. But you want your salon to stand out, both in terms of the quality of service your clients receive, but also for a high standard of style. So, it pays to take your time choosing the best chair for you, your salon and your clients. Most importantly, your manicure chair should be the right fit with your manicure table to give you maximum comfort. The best manicure tables for sale will indicate the type of chair you need.
Here are a few pointers to guide you in the right direction:
- The chair should offer excellent support
- To provide added comfort, it should be cushioned
- A leather, or leather look, seat looks smart and professional, is hard wearing and easy to keep clean, but it can be sticky in hot weather
- A stainless steel, or chromed, chair frame is more resilient to stains, and looks smarter
- Chairs or stools that have a hydraulic lift mechanism allow the height to be instantly adjustable
- Wheels, or casters, allow the chair to move, or be moved; however, it’s better if there’s a lock or brake, otherwise your client could be rolling out of the door!
- A back support is a nice touch, but many manicure chairs don’t have it due to needing to be highly maneuverable.

This is a smart looking, professional quality stool. The chrome plated finish, and acetone resistant vinyl covers would look great in any salon setting. The back is nicely supportive, but doesn’t interfere with the full maneuverability, which, thanks to the five heavy duty wheels, is smooth and effortless. Suitable for either client or manicurist, it’s well padded, fully height adjustable and completely stable.
Where It Could Be Improved
Wheel locks, or brakes, would be a useful addition to this chair, but it’s not a deal breaker for me.

What Makes It Great

Where It Could Be Improved
As with the previous chair, brakes would have improved this stool.

What Makes It Great
For a manicure chair, this is super stylish, and coming in a large range of colors would look great in any salon. Providing good back support, it would suit either client or manicurist, and is perfectly stable on five solid, swivelling wheels.
Where It Could Be Improved
Again, it suffers slightly for not having a brake or locking wheels.

Every nail tech who owns a salon will tell you their clients’ comfort is extremely important as beauty treatments, including manicures and pedicures, can last for hours.
