Baby Blue Nails

The Prettiest Baby Blue Nails

Soft, gentle and sensitive, yet with a sense of lighthearted fun, baby blue is a justifiably popular color. Beautifully pastel, it’s associated with love, trust, serenity, and wisdom. In biblical paintings, the Virgin Mary was often depicted wearing baby blue robes, suggesting that it was believed to aid healing and spirituality and demonstrate innocence and purity.

Baby blue has been shown to have positive effects on both mind and body, actually causing the body to produce calming chemicals, slowing the metabolism and suppressing the appetite.

Complimentary colors include creams, yellows and reds, but baby blue pretty much looks great with any color, which makes it a good go-to manicure color. Here are my top three baby blue polishes.

1) OPI Nail Polish – It’s a Boy

What Makes it Great
Well, no guesses as to how this gorgeous polish got its name! Pretty, pale and eye catchingly different, OPI have done it again. A soft, baby blanket blue that goes well with most colors and suits every skin tone, it’s particularly lovely when used as a base for nail art. OPI is well known for producing hard wearing polishes and this lasted almost three weeks before developing the first chip.

Where it Could be Improved
I had to apply two coats to create a streak free look.

The Final Verdict

Pretty, summery, and perfect for day or nighttime wear, this palest baby blue should be on every nail aficionado’s must-have list.

2) essie Nail Polish – Getting Intricate

What Makes it Great
I like essie polishes, and whilst they don’t have such a wide range of colors as some other brands, this one is especially great. Baby blues don’t come much paler – it’s almost an off white with cool hints of pastel blue, and eggshell. Delicately pretty and surprisingly girly, I spotted the first chip on day 14, so off it came.

Where it Could be Improved
This gel based polish, unusually, took a bit of effort to remove.

The Final Verdict

If you’re looking for an unusual shade of baby blue, this is well worth considering. Rich yet pale, blue yet decidedly girly, this deserves its place in the top three.

3) China Glaze Nail Polish – Bahamian Escape

What Makes it Great
A deeper baby blue than the others I tried, Bahamian Escape is almost a pale azure, with hints of blue tropical waters, or cloudless summer skies. With a subtle shimmer, this polish is extremely eye catching, and I received lots of complements, hating it, when after day 16 the first chip appeared.

Where it Could be Improved
Make sure you use a base coat with this polish, as it does leave a slight stain on the nail bed.

Long summer days spent lounging on a tropical island - that’s what this gloriously blue polish reminds me of. Love it!
