Toenail Fungus Causes & Home Remedies – Easiest Methods to Restore Your Nail Health

Toenail fungus can appear for a number of reasons. It may be that your feet have become warm, damp from being in sports shoes, or you have caught the infection from someone else. In some cases, a fungal infection may be caused by a weak immune system or poor circulation. It will often disappear on its own, but if not, you may want to try out some natural remedies at home.

Home Remedies for Toenail Fungus

As tea tree oil has antifungal abilities, this can be an effective way to treat toenail fungus. All you need is a cotton swab, drop on a little tea tree oil and wipe it around your nail, covering the whole area.

This is one of my favorite tree tree oils. It treats any fungal infection and leaves your skin feeling beautifully soft. Great for aromatherapy, 100% pure, undiluted essential oil and comes with free glass dropper!

Another treatment for toenail fungus is to rub a protein treatment on the infection. Home treatments for toenail fungus are thought to be more effective than some prescription drugs, as these can often have adverse side effects.

It is thought that vinegar might be a good treatment for toenail fungus. You can use one part of the vinegar with two parts of warm water, soak your foot for 20 minutes and you should get some relief. It is best to try the treatment for a few months and if you don’t notice any difference, visit your doctor, as they will be able to give you something stronger to help alleviate the problem.

How to Prevent Fungal Nail Infection

If you suffer from a fungal nail infection once, it is normal for it to reoccur. There are, however, steps you can take to avoid this. You should aim to keep your toenails short and clean. Wear shoes that fit correctly and feel comfortable. If you visit the swimming pool or any other public area where you might have bare feet, always wear footwear. These environments are known to be a cause of nail infections and other problems. It is also a good idea to take hair and nail vitamins to keep your nails in the best possible condition.

However, if you keep having toenail fungal infections extremely often, it might be worth looking into the pH value of your water. When you’re showering, your feet and toenails are usually submerged in water. If the pH of your water is too high (or too acid), it could impact the pH of your toenails. Fungi prefer acidic environments to breed and spread so the root cause of your recurring fungal infections could be your acidic water. Acidic water also kills the good microflora on the human skin and can slow the metabolism. In order to test your water, you should invest in a quality pH meter. A pH meter will tell you the pH value of your water, and if you notice that the pH value is too acidic, you should consider purchasing an alkaline shower filter.
