Check Out My Top 3 Purple Nail Polishes – Beautifully Rich & Stunningly Stylish

Asides from being a great film, the color purple is, ironically, associated with royalty and plush luxury. Closer to the role owned by Whoopi Goldberg, it also suggests wisdom, dignity and pride.

Its rarity in nature and its strength within a rainbow have granted purple a sense of mystery that has existed for many centuries. It was one of the first colored dyes used by our ancestors, and it took over 12,000 marine murex snails to extract 1.5 grams of dye. Is it any wonder that only the richest nobility could afford robes of purple? Nowadays, fortunately, no snails are harmed in the creation of purple pigments!

A mixture of red and blue, purple includes shades as light as mauve, through to the deepest velvety indigo, and it looks stunningly original when mixed with its complementary color, yellow, for a crackle manicure.

Here, then, are my very favorite purple nail polishes.

 

1) OPI Nail Polish – Purple Purpose

What Makes it Great

This slightly glittery purple polish looks gloriously lush under a high gloss top coat – rich, deep and incredibly shiny (and I do love shiny). With miniscule flecks of star-like sparkles, it evokes the imagination, taking you on a journey into outer space – that velvet, never-ending deep space that we visit in dreams. Drawing admiring looks, my purple manicure remained gorgeous for just over two weeks.

Where it Could be Improved

Make sure you apply a base coat as this polish can stain slightly.

2) essie Nail Polish – Play Purple

What Makes it Great

Aptly named, this light purple has playful undertones. Not pale enough to be pastel, yet not deep enough to be violet, it’s a lighthearted, fun loving lilac. Ideal for a beach party, or a day trip into the hills, it’s too frivolous for a serious evening do. With Essie’s usual longevity, my nails remained chip-free for nearly two weeks.

Where it Could be Improved

This polish requires two coats to achieve a beautifully smooth finish.

3) Shade Shifter Multichrome Nail Polish

What Makes it Great

I just had to include this gloriously vibrant purple multichrome polish from Shade Shifter. Depending on the viewing angle, this magical metallic polish shifts from deep blues, through to rich, heartwarming purples, creating flashes of light whenever you move your hands. Luxuriously rich, it evokes the purple tones of royalty, whilst retaining the air of mystery purple is renowned for. Lasting for nearly three weeks, this is a keeper!

Where it Could be Improved

I found that, to achieve the chrome effect I was aiming for,  at least two coats needed to be applied.
